Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)
Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is a “Schedule A” recruitment program that connects federal government and private-sector employers nationwide to highly motivated college students with disabilities. UCSB currently participates in WRP, providing access to opportunities that range from summer internships to full-time positions, for all class levels in all occupational fields.

To be eligible to participate in WRP for the Fall 2020 recruitment cycle, you must meet all of the following criteria:
- Be a current U.S. Citizen
- Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at UCSB on a full-time basis (part-time students are eligible under if the reduced course load is due to a disability OR if taking less than a substantially full-time load in last quarter prior to graduation) OR have graduated with a degree on or after April 1, 2018
- Be a student with an intellectual, severe physical, or psychiatric disability under the Schedule A hiring authority (all students at UCSB who are registered with the Disabled Students Program are instantly eligible; consult the Schedule A Checklist for details)
Registration is currently closed and will reopen in early September 2020 until early October 2020.
When registration is open, please submit your Registration Request by clicking on the Student Registration button on the WRP website and complete the initial registration form for New Student Registration. No late registration forms will be accepted.
Once your New Student Registration request has been approved, submit your Student Application by mid-October 2020. Complete the following information:
- Identification and Contact Information
- Transcript (official or unofficial)
- Academic Information including major, degree, GPA, number of credit hours, credit type, etc.
- Disability Category (for statistical purposes only, not shown to employers)
- Optional: Supporting documents, such as letters of recommendation, writing samples, and Schedule A Certification letter

All applicants who register and apply by the above deadlines will be contacted via email in mid-October to schedule a phone interview with a WRP Recruiter, which will take place in early November 2020. To maintain your candidacy in the recruitment process, it is required that you respond to interview-related communications within a timely manner and begin your interview at the time that is scheduled.
For interview success, applicants are encouraged to find a quiet space to interview and prepare the following:
- List your desired position type(s) (Permanent Position, Internship/Temporary Position) for the 2020 calendar year (Seniors, Graduate Students, and Recent Alumni are only eligible for Permanent Positions)
- Describe the types of careers/fields that you would like to work in during the 2020 calendar year
- Know the geographic region(s) within the United States that you would be available to work in during the 2020 calendar year
- Be familiar with the types of accommodations you would like to request if hired for a position (you will NOT be asked to disclose or share your disability, but you will be asked about accommodations)
- If your GPA is lower than 2.5, be prepared to be asked to talk further about your academic performance
Between November 2020 and January 2021, upload a "Schedule A" Letter that follows the recommended format from WRP. The recommended format of a "Schedule A" Letter does not need to state the specific nature of your disability, detail medical history, or explain any needs for accommodation, but it must be written by a licensed medical/rehabilitation professional OR federal/state disability agency, signed, and printed on official letterhead in a format similar to this sample "Schedule A" letter. The letter also needs to state that you have an intellectual disability, severe physical disability, or psychiatric disability.
If you are registered with the Disabled Students Program (DSP), you are able to use the same letter that you submitted for DSP eligibility, if you feel comfortable and if it follows a similar format as the above sample letter. Alternatively, you can obtain a new letter that follows the recommended format.
In early December 2020, all applicants who complete Steps 1-4 will be notified about the results of their phone interview. Applicants who pass their phone interview will be placed into a government recruiting database and can be contacted by various federal employers for follow-up interviews or direct offers of employment between January 2021 and June 2021 for summer positions, and up until December 2021 for permanent positions. Please note that placement into the recruiting database does not guarantee that applicants will be contacted for interviews or employment offers, however, many past applicants from UCSB have received some form of follow-up from employers.

It is worth pausing to remember that these are the assets that have empowered you to accomplish the many feats of your life, most recently including your studies as a UCSB student.
By continuing to build forward, you will move closer to your specific career goals. Is there a specific type of task you can see yourself executing on a daily basis? Do you have an ability to do something that most people cannot? What do you find to be most fulfilling? Apply these considerations to guide yourself toward major and career options that leverage specific assets you have.
If you hone in on your strengths when exploring options for your future, employers will find you invaluable in their workplace. Whether you utilize your unique critical thinking skills, empathy for others, drive to overcome barriers, or many other attributes, you likely approach your career with a useful perspective that enhances the workforce.
