Department Announcement

June 15, 2020

Career Services recognizes that the past few months may have been challenging for our international student community with the uncertainty of the global pandemic and current federal policy landscape. We are relieved to hear that the federal government has withdrawn the July 6 guidance regarding international students and online classes for Fall 2020. Our international student community, including undergraduate and graduate students, are important members of our campus.

This year has brought upon additional stressors and barriers to our international student community. We seek to provide you with some career-specific resources to guide you during this time:

  • Career Advising Appointments: Schedule a virtual appointment with a Career Counselor by requesting an appointment via Handshake. If you have a chosen career path, it is recommended to make an appointment with a career counselor who specializes in your industry area. If you are a graduate student, it is recommended that you make an appointment with Lana Smith-Hale, Graduate Career Counselor.
  • International Students Community Liaison: Carol Huang, Career Counselor/Coordinator, works closely with the Office of International Students & Scholars to support international student career development. Attend a summer workshop tailored for international students or request an appointment through Handshake to discuss your career concerns with her.

Career Services has long been committed to supporting international students to the best of our ability. We have worked with many students in applying for and attaining practical experiences as well as pursuing graduate school to further their education. Your career success matters to us.

We continue to support you in developing your careers and engaging in experiential learning opportunities as valued members of our academic community at UCSB. We stand in solidarity with international students and look forward to working with you.
