Is Everything Working?

  • Is Handshake working?
  • Is Twilio working? (test video in Handshake & Handshake video requirements)
  • If you experiencing tech difficulties during a session, consider using the chat feature, provide the student with an external video link, or offer your phone number. You can also visit us in our Zoom Support room so we can gather your info and connect you with the student after the event.
  • Employer Support Room (puts you into the waiting room; remember to enter your name/issue in the SUPPORT FORM)

FYI on Sessions

1:1 Sessions

  • This is an individual virtual meeting between you and one student.
  • Video, audio, and text chat options are available once you enter the session.
  • Sessions are 10 minutes in length.
  • You will get a 1-minute warning but will not get booted out.
  • Students can attend multiple 1:1 sessions per employer but may only sign up for one 1:1 per individual representative.
  • We recommend that students give themselves at least a 10-minute break between each 1:1 session, just in case a session runs a few minutes longer than expected. Please be mindful of this as students leave/join your sessions.
  • Employers can set qualifications for their 1:1 sessions, and only students to meet those can book. Qualifications include GPA, major, graduation date, and work authorization.
    • Note: Early in their academic career, new/transfer students may not have data for GPA, have a major selected, or a grad date entered. By selecting these preferences, students missing that data will not have permission to sign up for your sessions.
    • Note: If your 1:1 sessions are not filling, you may have blocked students with your qualifications. Up until 1 hour before the event, you can modify your qualifications; after that, your only option is to clear all qualifications (see Editing 1:1 Sessions above).
  • Employers can choose to hold a session outside of Handshake via the “Switch to External Video” option.

Group Sessions

  • Sessions are 30 minutes in length.
  • Up to 50 students may sign up per group session.
  • Students may attend any group session that interests them. Employers cannot set qualification preferences for group sessions.
  • Employers can choose to hold a session outside of Handshake via the “Switch to External Video” option.
  • After 15 students join, video and audio are disabled. They may still ask questions via the chat or “raise hand” feature.

What happens if an employer representative has to cancel their attendance?

  • The employer will need to cancel any specific sessions for that rep and add a different person to the fair for 1:1s. They may transfer a 1:1 schedule to a colleague that isn't already selected to participate in the fair.
  • For group sessions, they could add the new representative.

Downloading Student Resumes

Employers will use the “RSVP” tab of their schedule to access the full list of their session attendees. From here, they can download students’ public resumes from their Handshake profiles and data, including name, email address, grad date, major, and more. See  “Following Up After a Virtual Fair” article for how-to navigate to this from the View My RSVPs link.
