The Work-Study Program (WSP) encourages the part-time employment of UCSB's undergraduate and graduate students. Their earnings help them to defray the cost of their education. WSP positions should complement and reinforce a recipient's academic and/or career goals, serve the public interest and, whenever possible, directly involve the recipient in community service activities to the maximum extent possible.

NOTE: UCSB Financial Aid does not accept work-study positions over the summer. Over the summer months (June-Sept), employers are welcome to submit postings to be reviewed by Career Services as non-work-study positions. The UCSB Work-Study Program will resume approving Work-Study job postings for each academic year in mid-August.

Work-Study Calendar
Work-Study Positions are reviewed by the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships and a minimum of 5 business days is needed. Here are the dates for this academic year to approve work-study positions:

  • July 31, 2023: Departments can begin to post work-study positions on Handshake to get them in the pipeline for review
  • Aug 14, 2023: The Office of Financial Aid will begin to approve postings on this date, and students can review and apply for work-study postings.
  • Sept 17, 2023: First-day students can start to work under Work-Study. Students can print their 2023-2024 Work-Study Referral Forms 10 days before the first day of Fall quarter instruction.
  • May 25, 2024:  Final date students can work under Work-Study for off-campus affiliated employers.
  • May 31, 2024:  Final date students can work under Work-Study for Monthly employees.
  • June 8, 2024: Final date students can work under Work-Study for a Bi-Weekly on-campus Work-Study position.

Please refer any questions about work-study positions to the Financial Aid Office: FinAidWSP@sa.ucsb.edu
