NEW: If your company is looking to conduct interviews virtually, you can manage those schedules through Handshake! Click here to learn more: https://support.joinhandshake.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045688654-Hosting-Virtual-Interviews. We recommend step 2 - adding the virtual meeting link to the interviewer slots.

----------

On-Campus Interviews are an opportunity to have individual interviews with students in our professional and comfortable recruiting facility free of charge. Through Handshake, you can request schedules, review resumes, evaluate candidates and manage interview selections. You can begin requesting rooms two months prior to the first day of interviews in any quarter. Please reference our recruiting calendar for specific dates.

How to Request On-Campus Interviews

  1. Login to your Handshake account.
  2. Click on the "Request an Interview" icon from your home dashboard.
  3. Fill out the "Request Interview Schedule" form and include all the details regarding your visit such as your preferred date, room count, and timeline.
  4. Select the job(s) you would like attached to the interview schedule.
  5. Click Request when you are done. Your schedule request has been sent to Career Services for approval.

Different OCI Timelines

  • Preselect to Alternate starts with pre-selection, and after a certain date, opens your schedule to your alternates. This gives you the option to screen and invite students to your interview day. (For this option, interview schedule and student sign-ups are completed via Handshake;  you must submit a request at least 4 weeks in advance)
  • Open allows all qualified students to sign up for available interview slots in Handshake on a first-come, first-served basis regardless of whether or not you have vetted and invited them to sign-up. This means you are OPEN to interview any candidate! (For this option, you must submit a request at least 2 weeks in advance)
  • Room Reservation.  NOTE: Room Reservation is not available for Fall 2020. A space is reserved for you to meet with students in a professional environment. This model provides the most flexibility and is a great option if you are planning to meet students at an event and then want to invite those you prefer to an interview the day or week following your meeting. (For this option, applicant screening and interview scheduling is done by the employer; you may submit a request as little as 1 week in advance)

How to Manage your Interview Schedule

  1. Log on to your Handshake account. On the left-side navigation bar, click on Interviews.
  2. Click on your campus interview request.
  3. The Details tab provides an overview of your interview schedule. In this section you can review applicants, build interview packet, add an applicant and manage your jobs.
  4. The Edit tab allows you to create a new job or attach an existing job.
  5. The Applicants tab allows you to select your students, change their status and add applicants.

Please refer to the Handshake Help Center for FAQs and employer training videos

NEW: Host a virtual information session easily from your remote workspace via your conferencing platform or we can host you via Zoom. Log into Handshake, select “+Create an Event,” and then select “virtual” as the format, add your URL or let us know and we will add a Zoom link. Fees will only apply if you need to use our conference platform, otherwise, this service is free!

Since we are experiencing an increase in volume of virtual information session requests. they will be accepted on a first come - first served basis. We will do our best to not overlap companies with similar hiring needs on the same day and time. If your session is not accepted, please reach out to us to discuss an alternative date/time.

------------

Holding an information session allows you to promote your company’s opportunities and meet potential candidates prior to your campus interviews or post recruiting events – all while increasing your brand and visibility on campus. Can’t make it to campus? We can host you virtually.

How to request an information session

  1. To schedule an information session, login into your Handshake account and, on the home dashboard, select "Create an Event."
  2. Enter the Event Name. Select the Format. Select University of California, Santa Barbara as your host school and Information Session as the Type.
  3. Enter the Start and End Date.
  4. Please include information regarding what the information session will cover, the types of students who should attend (major, grade level, etc.), and positions recruiting for in the Description.
  5. Proceed to fill out the additional questions. Click “Save” to request the event.
  6. After requesting the event, add any attachments such as promotional material to the event overview page.
  7. Once we receive your request, Career Services staff will review it and assign your information session at the University Center (UCen) or other location as you requested.
  8. Once your event is approved, you will receive an email confirmation describing the details of your event.

Advertise Your Session
At Career Services, we will promote Information Sessions via Handshake. Some information sessions will be included in our weekly newsletter to students, this will depend on volume and space. Additionally, we can post flyers and posters that you prepare announcing your event on a bulletin board we have for just this purpose. Please send your marketing material to us at least two weeks in advance of your information session.

We also need your help in advertising your session. Below are additional strategies that we highly recommend to make your session a success:

  • If you are attending a career fair and holding an information session shortly thereafter, we suggest that you hand out a flier promoting your information session at the career fair and personally invite any student you meet at the fair to your information session by email.
  • A very effective way to promote your session is via a Handshake Email Blast where we will help you target a specific student population with an invitation to your event. We also offer several marketing bundles that can help increase attendance at your event.
  • You can personally invite UCSB student organizations to your information session to increase attendance. Names and contact information for student orgs can be found on the Shoreline website powered by Office of Student Life. Some organizations have made their contact information public and some have not. You can  google search for an org website or social media page where you might be able to find contact information.
  • You also have the ability to message the students who have RSVPd for your event via Handshake. Click here to learn more: https://support.joinhandshake.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001020627-How-to-Access-and-Message-Event-RSVPs-
  • If you have a Premium Handshake account, send an event campaign to students to promote your event. Click here to learn more: https://support.joinhandshake.com/hc/en-us/articles/115013701707-How-to-Send-a-Job-or-Event-Campaign
