Internships

Action Without Borders
Idealist.org is committed to helping people who want to do good works in the world. What better place to look for an internship/volunteer opportunity? They have listings from the United States and abroad.

Advancing Science, Serving Society
The non-profit organization, “Advancing Science, Serving Society” established the Program of Dialogue on Science, Ethics, and Religion (DoSER) in 1995 to facilitate communication between scientific and religious communities. The work of the Dialogue is currently organized around the broad themes of bioethics, evolution, human nature, bio-responsibility, and cosmos. Find out more about internship opportunities.

National Public Radio

Graduate & Professional Schools

At present, there are only two public universities in California that offer graduate study in Religious Studies. They are shown below. (UC Berkeley offers a Graduate Group in Buddhist Studies.) For private school offerings in California, see GradSchools.com (linked below)

The most comprehensive source of graduate school information.

Cal State University Long Beach
Offers a Masters in Religious Studies prepares students for teaching about religion in high schools, community colleges and for advanced doctoral work in the field.

UC Santa Barbara
Offers three degree-granting graduate programs:
M.A./Ph.D.: This program is for students preparing for university teaching and research careers.
Ph.D.: This program is for students transferring to UCSB with a Master's degree in Religious Studies or its equivalent and preparing for a career in university teaching and research.
M.A. Plan II: This program is for students wanting to learn more about religion for professional or career development (for example, public school teachers, journalists) not exclusively related to university teaching and research. This Master's degree does not lead to Ph.D. work at UCSB.

Graduate Theological Union
A consortium of nine theological seminaries and eight centers and affiliates. They are also a graduate school offering academic programs leading to the degrees of M.A., Ph.D., and Th.D. in a wide range of fields in theology and religious studies.

American Academy of Religion
Founded in 1909, the world's largest association of academics who research or teach topics related to religion.

International Association for the History of Religions (IAHR)
A worldwide body of national and regional associations for the academic study of religion, and is a member of the Conseil International de la Philosophie et des Sciences Humaines/ The International Council for Philosophy and Humanistic Studies (CIPSH) under the auspices of UNESCO.
