The Quick and Dirty Job Search
For some students, the thought of planning ahead for
employment is overwhelming. There just isn't
enough time to do a good job, yet you need to find
work now. Our best advice to you is just jump in.
If you’re in a hurry, don’t worry
about getting the idea job, or starting your “career.” Just
get into the workforce and you can fine tune your
direction later.
The Advanced Job Search
You are starting early and ready to put some time and
thought into getting a good job. If you don’t
have a career targeted yet, use our Career
Planning resources. We have lots of tools to help you determine
what might be your best first step.
- Once you have a job in mind, check out our Internships resources. While any job or leadership experience
looks good on a resume, if you can get some experience
that
is directly related to your target career, this will
make you a very strong candidate. It can also help
you begin Networking, as your intern sponsor will
be a professional in a field of interest to you and
can
potentially connect you with other professionals.
- Attend
our JobLaunch
workshop. We cover all aspects of
the job search from writing your resume to negotiating
salary. Pull together a rough draft resume and bring
it to the CRR for a critique
or click here to
submit for an online review.
- Let employers come to
you. We have at approximately 50 employers per
quarter who use our Campus
Interview Program to recruit students into their companies.
Submit your resume to them through GauchoLink. We
also have
1-2 job Career
Fairs each quarter, which pull in
another 50 or so employers a piece. These employers
are looking
predominately for June grads, and most front load
toward fall quarter, assuming the best employees
will be those
planning early. Research
your favorite employers,
attend Info Sessions (listed on GauchoLink), and
come to the
fairs and interviews prepared.
