Technical & Science Internships

The Internship Program at Career Services maintains two binders of employer internship information for local and out-of-the-area employers in addition to employer directories. Drop-in hours: Monday through Friday 8:30am-11:45am and 1pm-4:30pm.

Attend a Technical and/or Sciences Internship Workshop and/or Career Fair. See the Career Services Workshop schedule for dates and times.

This eList exists to alert Engineering and Computer Science students about internships, corporate information sessions, campus job interviews, news, career trends, resume tips and more. This list is a collaboration between the College of Engineering and Career Services.

American Institute of Chemical Engineers
Links to more than 100 companies posting internships. Often found in the Career/Employment Opportunities (aka, "Job Listings", "Working For Us")

Association of Computing Machinery (ACM)
The ACM mega site for internships looks robust!

Engineering Jobs
Great site. What we like the most is their links to professional associations. If you are serious about your career, join these organizations. They'll help you find an internship.

The EE/CS Mother Site
This site seems to have both quantity and quality. If you wish to shop for companies by name, go here! Our intern coordinator printed this site and we had to go buy new toner and paper.

Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience
Provides overseas technical assignments for science and engineering students primarily in technical firms in Scandinavian countries where English is spoken.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates Program (REU)
The REU sites are provided by the National Science Foundation for students in all fields of science, mathematics, and engineering. Each research site consists of a group of ten or so undergraduates, who work in the research programs of the host institution working closely with faculty, post-docs, and graduate students. Contact each site directly for specific information and application procedures and deadlines.

Science & Engineering Council of Santa Barbara
Local area network of technical companies and educational partners interested in providing networking and monthly luncheon speakers on a variety of applied technology innovations and applications.

Environmental Careers Organization
More than 600 undergraduates and graduates are placed in short-term, paid or stipend research opportunities in a variety of environmental/science oriented areas throughout the state and country. Browse specific opportunities for academic disciplines most in demand. This site also links you to key environmental career related sites, associations, organizations, agencies and much more.

Marine Biology Summer Courses and Internships

National Institutes of Health - Undergraduate Scholarship Program (UGSP)
Offers scholarship awards for tuition and educational and living expenses up to $20,000 per academic year for students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are committed to careers in biomedical research. In return, recipients serve as paid employees in NIH research laboratories during the summer and after graduation. Deadline late March.

SCIBUGS(The Society of Cal Integrative Bio Undergrad Students at UC Berkeley)
Excellent web site for UC Bio majors seeking links to internships and research positions.

The American Society for Cell Biology
Click on Education, Minorities & Women and then Minorities Affairs Committee. Next, click on Summer Programs. Provides a comprehensive annotated listing of national research and laboratory positions for all undergraduates even though minorities and women are emphasized.

The School for Field Studies (SFS)
Provides hands-on field work in environmental problem solving for academic credit through its fall and spring semester programs and intense 30 day summer courses at the following six international SFS Field Study Centers located in Australia, Costa Rica, Kenya, British West Indies, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Republic of Palau and Baja, Mexico.

The Student Conservation Association
Places more than 1200 Resource Assistants year round in 12 week expense paid volunteer internships with our national areas in most states including Alaska and Hawaii involving land stewardship and wildlife conservation projects. Program also offers 70 some Conservation Associate positions involving a six month to a year commitment and more in-depth experience in conservation work. See website for further details. Kelly Scientific Resources
Serves as a clearinghouse for summer internships in the bio-tech central coast community. See details on-line. Deadline is mid-March. Also, see http://www.sciencelearning.com for on-line classes for Good Lab Practices(GLP) that increase your marketability.

Wildlands Studies Program, SFSU
Wildlands Studies, a unit of SFSU's College of Extended Learning, offers on site field research projects throughout the US and around the world. Choose from over 30 wildlife, wildland, and wildwater projects examining wildlife preservation, resource management, conservation ecology and cultural sustainability issues.
