Post B.A. Internships

Many programs involve highly competitive situations, and an extensive application process. Begin your research late junior or early senior year.

AMERICORPS
1-800-942-2677
National Service Initiative that engages college students in a US based community rural or urban service project for a one to two year assignment in exchange for education awards. (Approx. $4725/year for full-time participants and $2362 for part-time) to help finance future graduate school options, or pay back student loans. There are 400 AmeriCorps programs nationwide, and at least 23 local service partnerships in California, excluding VISTA. Living allowance is between $7,640 and $15,280. The Carter Center Internship Program
For undergraduates and recent graduates interested in contemporary international and domestic issues. Click on "About Us". Scroll down and click on "Internships".

Capital Fellows Program
The Center administers the Jesse M. Unruh Assembly Fellowship, Executive Fellowship, Judicial Administration Fellowship, and California Senate Fellows programs. These programs, known collectively as the Capital Fellows Programs, are nationally recognized. The 18 Assembly Fellows, 18 Senate Fellows, 18 Executive Fellows and 10 Judicial Administration Fellows receive an outstanding opportunity to engage in public service and prepare for future careers, while actively contributing to the development and implementation of public policy in California. The ranks of former fellows and associates include a Justice of the California Supreme Court, members of the United States Congress and the State Legislature, a deputy director of the Peace Corps, corporate executives, and local government and community leaders.

Fellows in each program work for 11 months, receive health benefits and a monthly stipend of $1972 and are considered employees of CSUS. They work as full-time members of a legislative, executive, or judicial branch office, and are typically given assignments with a significant amount of responsibility and challenges. Fellows also enroll as graduate students at CSUS and receive 12 graduate credits from the CSUS Government Department or Public Policy and Administration Program. The enrollment fees are paid by the programs.

College Plus One
For recent graduates or graduates seeking a professional internship in the D.C. area. Program includes housing, internship placement, job search help and a professional program administered out of The Washington Center.

Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs
A full-time, graduate level, intensive, experienced based leadership program in public affairs. Positions available each year in Los Angeles, New York, St. Louis, and San Francisco.

InterAction-American Council for Voluntary International Action
A coalition of more than 150 US-based non-profits working for humanitarian assistance in 165 countries around the world with potential volunteer opportunities for college graduates.

National Internships, Fellowships & Scholarships
Provides links for national research internships in government, private industry, non-profit organizations as well as science-related fellowships and scholarships. This is an amazing list for those pursuing additional research experience after graduation.

Teach for Amercia

Places college graduates as teachers for two years of service in inner city or rural public schools. No formal teaching credential required. However, participants must take 14 units toward teaching credits at a nearby institution(free tuition) during service. Service is considered part of the Americorps program. Applications accepted on a rolling basis until early March.

Institute for Humane Studies
Provides information on scholarships, fellowships, and free seminars.

The Everett Public Internship Service Program
Places almost 200 interns in New York or Washington D.C. in summer public service internships with 52 organizations dedicated to improving the world. Internships provide $200 for weekly expenses. Review program descriptions and application requirements on-line. Apply to those organizations of most interest to you indicating in your cover letter that you are applying for an Everett Public Service Internship. Deadlines vary. DC summer housing may be obtained through the UCLA Expo Center in early April by calling (310) 825-0831.

Congressional Research Service
Offers volunteer internships to post-graduate students who are seeking experience in a public policy research organization.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI)
The CHCI was established in 1978 by members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus as a non-profit, non-partisan educational organization dedicated to developing the next generation of Latino leaders. CHCI’s educational services are designed to provide Latino students with the tools and resources they need to succeed in attaining a higher education. Its leadership development programs seek to help participants search for and understand their identity as professionals, Latinos, and leaders. By bringing together individuals who share a commitment to serve their communities, CHCI endeavors to make its vision of an educated and civic-minded Latino community a reality.
