iHipo
iHipo enables candidates to find internships
and jobs abroad. As a social network, iHipo offers the
ideal opportunity to build an international career network
(e.g. with other expatriates) and join country-based
communities.
International Cooperative Education (ICE)
Paid overseas
summer work and internships. Low cost fees include housing;
work visa and placement. Open to international students
and graduating seniors.
AIPT (Association for International Practical Training)
AIPT promotes international understanding through cross-cultural, on-the-job,
practical training exchanges for students and professionals in over 50
countries around the world. Most full-time internships last for 8-12 weeks
during the summer, but longer stays are available. AIPT programs include
the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical
Experience (IAESTE) to assist students majoring in technical subjects,
the Student Exchanges program (mostly hospitality/tourism) to assist students
in non-technical majors, and the Career Development program for professionals
and recent graduates in nearly any career field.
American-Scandanavian Foundation

The Nordic countries are among the world's most
advanced nations in engineering, computer technology
and education. Paid short-term and long-term training
positions with private industry and technical universities
in chemistry, computer science, forestry, horticulture,
engineering are available throughout Nor den (Denmark,
Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden) lasting from
8 to 12 weeks from May to October are available.
Au Pair in Europe

Administered through American Institute for Foreign
Study, 1-800-727-2437. Au Pair Europe offers au
pair placements to both U.S. and Canadian citizens
in countries such as Australia, Austria, Belgium,
Bermuda, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece,
Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden,
Switzerland and the United Kingdom. Language proficiency
may be required for some countries. Positions range
in length of service and extended stays may be

Au Pair Jobs

Provides annotated listings by country of prospective families including background information and requirements that seek an au pair arrangement for their children. Besides getting free room and board and a small salary, college students get a chance to practice conversational skills in the language they are studying while getting time off for travels and further explorations of a region they hope to visit.
BUNAC: Work in Britain and Australia

North America Club (BUNAC) allows participants
to experience short-term work in Britain (England,
Scotland, or Wales) for up to 6 months any time
of the year. Participants find their own jobs and
may work in any field, although most find work
in the service industry ( retail, restaurants,
pubs, etc.). The program is open to U.S. citizens
who are full-time students or graduating seniors,
provided they begin the program within 6 months
after graduation. There is a limited program also
available in Australia for 150 US students granted
on a first-come, first serve basis. The program
fee is $550 and your visa application and fees
are due end of January.

CDS offers training opportunities ranging from
6-18 months in business, engineering and technical
fields. The program involves one month of intensive
language training in Germany followed by a five
month paid internship or a work permit for 12-18
months, depending upon the CDS program utilized.

Council's program allows participants to experience
short-term work abroad year-round. A variety of
job opportunities are available in countries such

past jobs include a dietary assistant in France,
a tour guide in Germany, and an organic farmer
in New Zealand.

Interexchange

InterExchange offers a variety of programs (summer
and year-long) for both US and non-US citizens. They
offer work programs in the Czech Republic, Finland,
Germany, Hungary, Norway, and Switzerland and au
pair programs in Austria, Finland, France (summer
and year),
Italy, Netherlands, Norway and Spain.
WISE: Worldwide
Internships & Service Education
WISE offers a number of three to six month internships
in London, United Kingdom. Placements are done with
a project-center approach, making these internships
appropriate for students or mid-career professionals.
Placements can be can be arranged in all fields of
interest - the arts, business, industry, government
agencies, marketing and travel. Recent sites have included
Sotheby's, Merrill Lynch and the House of Commons.
Preferred starting dates are September and January.
A six week program is available in the summer . Stipends
are provided. All program arrangements are made in
advance and WISE provides guidance through the visa

ELTAP is an undergraduate course for credit where
participants do team-teaching of English in high
school or post-secondary
institutions. Placements have been made in Brazil,
Cameroon, the Czech Republic, India, Italy,Lithuania,
Russia, Sweden,
Thailand, and Vietnam. Most participants stay with
families, but some stay in flats or school dorms.
Some housing
arrangements are at no cost, others cost $210-700.
Participants must write a paper on the experience
and keep an "analytical
journal";
grading is pass/fail. $300 application fee; tuition
for 15 quarter credits is $1,545 (both in-state
and out-of-state).
Placements made year-round, approximately 10-15
per quarter. Program is open to students from other
universities.

full-year, but shorter terms also available. Teacher
usually pays airfare; housing, stipend and/or health

must have at least a bachelor's degree and be able
to demonstrate teaching ability. For $20, you receive
school listings for three countries; please choose
three countries when submitting request. Application
deadline
varies according to country, but schools accept
applications year-round. Of approximately 500 people
requesting information per month, an estimated
10-25% get offers.

Global Routes places pairs of teaching interns
17 years of age and older in local schools in remote
villages in Costa Rica, Ecuador, Thailand, Kenya
and the Navajo Nation. Interns live with host families
and teach full time in the local schools.They are
also expected to complete a community service project
in their community. Two-month summer and three-month
academic term placements available. Program fees
are$3,550 for summer, $3,950 for academic term,
not including airfare. Registration fee is $45.
No application deadline, limited to space available;
groups have 10-14 interns. All in-country expenses
included in fee: orientation, training, housing,
meals, transportation, entrance fees, full-time
leader, etc. 60 interns participated in 1997.

PACIFIC
ISLANDS CLUB

is a full-time, six month contract to be a CLUBMATE
on Guam or Saipan for Asian tourists. The contract
includes room and board; round-trip airfare; a monthly
salary of $520; and inexpensive medical and dental
insurance for approx. $40 a month. This position requires
a strong customer service industry background, outgoing,
energetic personality with a desire to work hard and
gain multi-cultural exposure. Life guarding, CPR, First-Aid,
EMT, or wind surfing instruction certificates area
all helpful. An ability to speak or learn Japanese,
Chinese or Korean is very important.
CAMP COUNSELORS USA
Offers
an"educational work-travel program" in
camps and orphanages across the former Soviet Union;
programs
also available in Australia, New Zealand, and Venezuela.
Placements in camp with full room and board and a
small, symbolic stipend (not enough to cover program
fee).
Minimum requirements include experience with children,
knowledge
of the appropriate foreign language, and teaching/coaching
experience. Fee of $1,500 includes round-trip airfare
from New York, visa, travel insurance, orientations
(not training) in New York and Moscow, and support
during
the 4 or 8 week program. Application deadline April1.
Usually about 100 applicants. For 1999, selected
about 50-75 placements.
