What service would you highly recommend students utilize from Career Services?
One service I find to be very helpful are all of the career binders that the career center has. There is a binder for almost every occupation and field of study that interest you, containing information such as annual salary, degrees needed/recommended to go into that field, what cities are most likely to hold these jobs, and much more information specifically geared toward that field of study. The first time I went through these binders in the career center, I was amazed at how resourceful these binders were! They are truly beneficial and should definitely be utilized!

What is your major (minor if applicable) and why did you choose this area to study?
My major is Black Studies, with a soon to be a double major in Linguistics and a minor in Speech and Hearing Sciences. I chose black studies because I love learning about my culture and how not just African-Americans, but all underrepresented groups interact with society as a whole. I love studying about and working with people, so majoring in Black Studies would grant me the opportunity to not only learn more about my community, but help them in areas necessary. I chose Linguistics and Speech and hearing sciences because I would like to become a Speech and Language Pathologist, and open my own practice helping children that are speech delayed and have impediments.

What are your special hobbies/interests? What do you like to do for fun?
I’m really more of a “homebody” and like to lounge at home more than anything else. So one of my favorite hobbies would be to lay outside in a grassy area on a sunny day, read a really good book and listen to my music on speakers. That’s one of the most relaxing things for me to do, and since I love the sun, it’s a formula for a perfect afternoon.

After graduation, what is your career goal?
After graduation, I hope to take a break from school either working or going abroad. I’d really like to go to Ghana before I start my career and after graduation may be the perfect time to do so. After I get some experience working and travel a bit, I’d like to go on to grad school getting my Masters and PhD in Speech Pathology, hopefully leading the way for me to open up my own Speech and Language Center for Children.
