What service would you highly recommend
students utilize from Career Services?
The personal assessment tests offered at Career
Services are valuable whether students are trying
to decide on a major, narrow down career interests,
or discover aspects of their personality that can
make them more marketable to employers.
What makes your current job as a career peer
advisor special for you?
I have learned to use
so many tools in career research and planning,
and have come a long
way in my own path of self-exploration in a
short amount of time. I also enjoy working
with the other peers and consulting with the
advisors, all of which are friendly and approachable.
What do you like most about working for Career
Services?
I have had the benefit of learning
new skills relevant to my own job interests
through side
projects. But best of all, I am able to guide
fellow students toward valuable resources that—whether
immediately or in the long run—will have
an impact on what they do with their lives!
What is your major and why did you choose
this area to study?
I chose to be a Communication
major for its broad application to so many
industries I am
interested in, including Advertising, Public
Relations, and Media & Entertainment. I
also picked up a Music minor because I am passionate
about playing, listening to, and learning about
music.
After graduation, what is your career goal?
My
ideal job is an Art Director for an advertising
agency, because I enjoy the creative, big-idea
stage of projects. Or, I would love to connect
my two interests with a communication-related
job in the Music industry.
Anything else you would like to share with
students?
Start planning early—the Career Center
sees a lot of seniors, but what many students
don’t know is that we have so many resources
and services to offer all students, even freshmen
in their first quarter at UCSB. The earlier
you start exploring and researching, the less
stressful it will be later when you are about
to graduate and embark on your career.
