Promoting Your Internship at UCSB

Timing is important! UCSB is on a ten week quarter system. Plan your company information meeting earlier in the quarter. Aim for fall and winter quarters if possible. Many established summer internship program deadlines occur as early as February and end before spring break, typically the last week of March. Part time internship listings during the school year should be posted at least a month in advance.

  • Choose your intern title(s) carefully. Rather than a generic "Intern", try something that captures the role and function your student intern will be serving. Examples: Financial Services Intern or Marketing/Outreach Intern
  • Highlight "skills to be developed" in your internship listings to promote the learning options unique to you. Examples: "Learn Pagemaker; Excel; PowerPoint", or "Chance to work with a nationally recognized expert in event planning."
  • Design a promotional flyer and/or send us organizational information to supplement your web intern listing for us to post or have on reserve.
  • Speak at a student professional club meeting or have them announce your listing at their meetings. Click here for details.
  • Consider attending the Fall Business Career Fair or Science and Technical Career Fair. Click here for details. Involve your current or last summer's UCSB intern as your keynote speaker and campus promoter. If possible, get one of the student clubs to co-sponsor you and or announce at meetings. Time your session before your campus interview date combining a schedule with full-time career interviews.
  • Place an ad in our student newspaper, the Daily Nexus 805-893-3829 in the display classified section to get the best results. Time your ad with our agency's quarterly Career Services Supplement.
  • Email a promotional announcement to post on our Non-technical List Serv, email Leticia Trujillo. For Technical positions, post announcements on Tech Opps, email Don Lubach. Be sure you include your application deadlines, requirements, salary info, and instructions on how to apply.
